Get Involved

Welcome to the Richmond Golden Rods & Reels Society.

Our club was founded in 1981 to provide a non-profit recreational program for people 40 years and older who share a common enjoyment of fishing.

The annual membership fee is $40 for September 1 to August 31.

 Club Meetings

General Meetings are held in the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00 AM until noon.  There are no meetings in the month of December.

The agenda of the General Meeting covers club business and planned club activities and fishing trips, and get updates on recent fishing trips taken by our members.  We occasionally have guest speakers and presentations on fishing techniques.

We take a 15 minute break to enjoy coffee, tea and socializing.

After the meeting, some of us go to a local restaurant for lunch where we continue to catch up on each other’s activities and to get to know new members.

 Day Fishing Trips

We typically plan one or two-day weekday fishing trips each month while trying to keep participant costs to a minimum.

We vary our fishing expeditions by sampling local lakes, rivers and the ocean.  A few members have their own boats, and try to accommodate other members who do not.  We also fish rivers from shore either by casting or bar fishing (e.g. Fraser, Vedder & Chilliwack).

 Major Fishing Trips

In addition to our day fishing outings, the club plans five major fishing trips annually, four to lakes in BC’s interior and one to the west coast of Vancouver Island.  These trips are six to seven days long and are scheduled in the months of May, June, July, August and September.  We select lakes with resorts that have sufficient cabins, RV sites, and boat rentals needed to satisfy the collective needs of all participants.

Some members bring their own RV and/or boat.

Costs for these trips are the responsibility of each participating member.  Space permitting, family and friends are also welcome.

During these trips, we plan social events like a potluck supper or a wine & cheese party where we share many good fishing tales.

All fishing outings and trips provide an opportunity for members to share the enjoyment of fishing, to share fishing techniques and knowledge, and to simply enjoy each other’s company.

 Annual Awards Night

The club hosts an Annual Awards Night Celebration and Christmas Dinner on the first Friday or Saturday of December.

A Christmas Committee organizes this function, sets the dinner menu and determines the cost to members and guests.  The cost of the meal is the responsibility of each attendee.  Happy hour starts at 5:00 PM, dinner is served at 6:30; this is followed by the presentation of awards.
