Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When and where does your club meet?
A: Our club meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 10:30am to Noon at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) at the rear of the Steveston Community Centre property. After the meeting, many of our members will go to lunch at a local restaurant in order to continue socializing. See the JCCC location map on our "Find us" web page.
Q: Do I need to own a boat to join the club?
A: No! It is not necessary that you own a boat. Several members do have their own boats, which can often accommodate others. Where this is not possible, most of the clubs out-of-town fishing trips are to fishing resorts that offer cabins and campsites, as well as boats and motors for rent by the day or week. We try to share accommodations and boats to keep costs to a minimum.
Q: Do I need to have my own fishing equipment to join the club?
A: Yes, you will need to have your own fishing equipment but it is not necessary to have or buy all of your equipment prior to joining the club. Our members will be more than happy to provide advice and assistance in this area.
Q: I have little or no knowledge of fishing. Will I fit in with the other club members?
A: Yes, you will. We have many members with varying degrees of fishing experience who are eager to share their fishing knowledge and experience with new members. It is one of the many advantages of joining a fishing and social club.
Q: I note that the club has many fishing trips planned. If I become a members will I be expected to go on every trip?
A: Absolutely not! We plan many fishing trips each year, consisting of one-day local trips, two-day local trips, and six or seven day trips from which our members choose to participate or not participate.
Q: I am currently 78 years old but am still reasonably able to fish. Am I too old to join the club?
A: Not al all! We have several members who are the same age or older and continue to be active fishers.
